Press Release: Meet-the-Candidate Event at Frankie’s on Thursday

WATSON FOR N.C. SENATE
Stephanie E. Watson, Libertarian Candidate for N.C. Senate District 16

Monday, September 6, 2010

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RALEIGH, N.C. — Stephanie Watson, Libertarian candidate for N.C. Senate District 16 in Wake County, invites the public to a casual Meet-the-Candidate event at Frankie’s Fun Park on Thursday, September 9, between 6:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Frankie’s is at 11190 Fun Park Dr. off T.W. Alexander near US-70 in Raleigh.

This will be the second of two receptions this month for the Watson campaign. The first was held at Loco Lu’s Coffeehouse in Raleigh on September 2, and attendees filled the shop. At the event, Watson answered questions from the audience about state spending, transportation, education, and states’ rights.

Watson is a native to N.C. and a 1996 graduate of N.C. State University. As a Liberty advocate, Watson promotes freedom and personal responsibility. She explains, “Like many people today, I feel the Republican and Democratic parties in the United States have disenfranchised the voices of Liberty. The Libertarian Party understands that government intervention is at the heart of many of our issues, and that it’s more Liberty, not more intervention, that offers a real long-term solution.”

For the Thursday event, Watson is eager to meet more Wake County residents and discuss the local and state issues important to them. Watson encourages, “Come early, relax and enjoy some free food. Bring the kids, stay and enjoy the arcade and the park.”

Exciting News about the N.C. Political Parties Financing Fund

The attorneys the LPNC has been working with on the ballot access lawsuit discovered something buried in some state tax law changes (S.B. 1177) passed by the General Assembly last session and signed into law in early July. The GA has implemented an important change in the N.C. Political Parties Financing Fund that was requested by Gary Bartlett at the State Board of Elections office to resolve a conflict in the definition of “political party” between the state’s election law (G.S. 163) and the public campaign financing law in G.S. 105-159.1. I’m happy to report that the N.C. Political Parties Financing Fund now refers to G.S. 163-96 for that definition instead of establishing some arbitrary requirement within G.S. 105. Consequently, this means the LPNC will have equal treatment under the N.C. Political Parties Financing Fund as other qualified political parties, and will be able to receive their proportionate and designated shares of that fund.

Monday Update: Lawson BBQ Event, Annexation Rally, and the Cookout!

I really enjoyed the B.J. Lawson BBQ event on Saturday. The brisket was delicious, and the conversation was enjoyable. I appreciate B.J. giving me the unexpected chance to introduce myself and mention my top campaign issues. That simple introduction broke the ice for me and made for a wonderful evening of meeting some great people and talking about liberty.

Had an opportunity to meet my Republican opponent at the event. Mr. Beezley is a great guy who’s also passionate about changing the direction of government in N.C. Though we disagree on the role government should play in that change, I’m glad there’s people like Beezley putting their hat in the ring to get the self-serving establishment out of the legislature.

Wednesday’s coming, and I’m really looking forward to being part of the StopNCAnnexation Rally in Raleigh. I’ll be doused in sunscreen and ready to talk about meaningful annexation reform. Hopefully, I won’t forget to take my camera this time. (Darn it, Fernie! You were always there, and you always remembered! We miss you, and we’ll keep trying to fill your well-worn activist shoes.)

Then… Saturday, June 19, is the big COOKOUT at Pullen Park! Be sure to spread the word! The food and fun are free, and I’ll give a brief statement to talk about my campaign. Bring the whole family! I posted the details at the Meetup.com group, but RSVP there is optional: http://www.meetup.com/GoLiberty/calendar/13591665/

If you’d like to volunteer to help for the cookout, email me at stef@goliberty.net and I’ll let you know what tasks we still need covered.
